Heating in Farnborough

What we see in Farnborough homes

Farnborough is mostly a twentieth century town, with post-war and later estate housing making up the bulk of it, and a significant amount of apartment building added around the centre in recent years.

Flats and apartments are a different problem from houses, and the difference is space. A boiler in a flat usually sits in a kitchen cupboard or a utility space with very little room around it, and the regulations still require enough clearance to service it properly. Where the flue terminates is often decided by the building rather than by preference, and on a leasehold property there can be permissions to establish before anything is ordered.

The estate housing brings the more familiar questions: original pipework that has never been flushed, radiators added during an extension onto a circuit that was not sized for them, and hot water demand that has grown since the system was first put in.

Farnborough is within the area we cover. We always come back to you about work here, and we are flexible for customers we already look after.

FAQs

Common questions from Farnborough homeowners

Do you cover Farnborough?

Yes. Farnborough and the surrounding area are within our service area. If you are not sure whether you are covered, ask rather than assuming.

Can you replace a boiler in a flat?

Yes. The extra work is in the planning rather than the fitting: clearance around the boiler so it can be serviced properly, where the flue can terminate, how the condensate is run, and whether the freeholder or managing agent needs to be asked first. We establish all of that at survey stage.

The system was fine until we extended. What changed?

Usually the extension was put onto a circuit that was never sized to carry it. The boiler may be perfectly capable, but the flow to the far end of the system is not, which is why the new room and often the room nearest to it never get properly warm. That is a pipework and balancing question rather than a boiler one.

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Once a year. It keeps the boiler running safely and efficiently, it is what keeps most manufacturer warranties valid, and it is when small faults get found while they are still small.
