What we see in Basingstoke homes
Basingstoke grew enormously from the 1960s onwards, and that shows in the housing. A very large share of the town went up within a few decades of each other, which means a lot of properties share the same original layout, the same pipework decisions and the same problems.
Microbore pipework is the one that comes up most. It was standard on a great deal of housing from that era, and it works, but the narrow bore blocks more easily as a system ages and it limits what a replacement boiler can sensibly be paired with. Finding it before a boiler is specified rather than after is the difference between a straightforward job and a disappointing one.
The other consequence of a town built in bursts is that systems reach the end of their life in bursts too. If your neighbours are replacing boilers, there is a fair chance yours is the same age. That is worth knowing before it fails in December rather than after.
Basingstoke is at the Hampshire end of the area we cover. We always come back to you about work here, and we are flexible for customers we already look after.
FAQs
Common questions from Basingstoke homeowners
Do you cover Basingstoke and the surrounding villages?
Basingstoke sits at the far Hampshire end of our area, so it is worth asking before you assume. Get in touch and we will tell you straight away whether we can help rather than leaving you waiting.
What is microbore pipework and does it need replacing?
Microbore is narrow gauge pipework, common in housing built from the 1960s to the 1980s. It does not automatically need replacing. It is more prone to blockages as a system ages, and it constrains what a new boiler can deliver, so what matters is checking its condition and flow before specifying a replacement rather than assuming either way.
How do I know if my boiler is near the end of its life?
Age is the first clue: most boilers are into borrowed time past twelve to fifteen years. Beyond that it is repeat faults, rising repair costs, parts becoming harder to source, and a system that needs topping up more often than it used to. We will give you a straight answer on whether repairing is still worth it.
Will you give a fixed price before starting?
Yes. We survey first and price afterwards, and the price we agree is the price you pay. If something genuinely unexpected turns up once work is underway we stop and talk to you about it rather than adding it to the bill.
