What we found
Alexander had been without heating and hot water for some time before he called us. A cylinder had been leaking and had been taken out, but the pipework around it had only been altered far enough to get it out of the house.
The shower had been disconnected as part of that and never put back. It is a good deal longer than anyone should be going without hot water, and it was the first thing we wanted to put right.
Why a combi suited the house
With the cylinder gone, the house no longer needed the space it had taken up, and nothing about the way the property was being used called for storing hot water. A combi heats it on demand instead, which suited both the house and the position we were starting from.
It came with a ten year manufacturer warranty, which felt worth having here. The whole situation had started with something failing, so ten years of cover takes that worry off the table for a long while.
Putting the shower back
The pipework to the shower had been a temporary measure to get the old cylinder out, and temporary measures have a habit of staying. We reconnected it properly as part of the installation, so it was not left as one more thing to come back to.
