New Boiler Installation in Farnham
Farnham has one of the larger conservation areas in Surrey and a great deal of Georgian and Victorian property. Fitting a modern boiler into buildings of that age is mostly a question of where everything can go, which is why we survey before quoting rather than pricing off the property type.
Installing in Farnham
What an installation here actually involves
Much of central Farnham is Georgian and Victorian, a good deal of it listed or within the conservation area. The appliance is rarely the difficulty. The difficulty is the flue, the condensate route and any pipework that has to run on an elevation people can see.
Solid walls are the other practical issue. Older Farnham property often has no cavity, so a flue is a longer and more considered job than drilling through a modern wall, and internal routes sometimes make more sense than external ones.
Away from the centre the stock is more mixed, with a good deal of twentieth century family housing where the constraints are ordinary and the job is more straightforward. Both get the same survey; they just reach different answers.
Working within a listed or conservation area property
Listing protects the character of a building, and a flue terminal or a run of external pipework on a principal elevation is exactly the sort of thing that causes problems later. Where a property is listed, consent may be needed for work that affects its appearance, and it is worth establishing that before anyone orders a boiler. In practice there is nearly always a route that works. It just has to be found at survey stage rather than discovered on the second day of the job.

Common Questions
Boiler installation in Farnham
My house is listed. Can I still have a new boiler?
Yes. Listing does not stop you replacing a boiler, but it can affect where the flue terminates and where pipework runs, and work affecting the character of the building may need consent. We establish what is possible at the survey so the quote reflects the real job.
Can the flue go internally rather than through the front wall?
Often yes. Flues can be routed vertically or through a less visible elevation, and on period property that is frequently the better answer. It adds to the work but it keeps the outside of the building as it should be.
Do you cover Farnham?
Yes, Farnham is within our normal working area and we have a general heating page for the town as well as this one.
How disruptive is a boiler installation in an older house?
More than in a modern one, honestly, because routes are less obvious and walls are solid. We plan it at the survey, dust sheet properly and tell you in advance which parts of the house we need access to and for how long.
