New Boiler Installation in Woodley

Woodley is mostly post-war housing, which makes boiler installation here more predictable than in the older villages nearby. That is an advantage: the systems are familiar, the problems are known ones, and a properly done job can be quoted accurately.

Installing in Woodley

What an installation here actually involves

Woodley grew substantially after the war, so the bulk of the housing is mid-century semis and detached houses built to a handful of patterns rather than one at a time. Mains gas is the norm and the layouts repeat, which means we usually know what we are walking into.

What that also means is that most of these houses are now on their second or third boiler. The appliance has been changed but the system around it often has not, so we find original pipework, original radiators and sometimes narrow microbore runs feeding a modern condensing boiler that was never designed for them.

That is the thing worth getting right here. Hanging a new boiler on an old, dirty system is how a good appliance ends up performing badly and how a warranty gets refused. The system matters as much as the box on the wall.

Why the system matters more than the boiler in Woodley

A new boiler has much narrower waterways than the one it replaces, so anything circulating in your system ends up inside it. On housing of this age that usually means years of sludge. Every installation we do includes cleaning the system properly, dosing it with inhibitor and fitting a magnetic filter, because Building Regulations require it, manufacturers tie the warranty to it, and it is the difference between a boiler that lasts and one that does not. Where the existing pipework is undersized we will tell you before we quote, not afterwards.

Common Questions

Boiler installation in Woodley

Do you cover Woodley?

Yes. Woodley is a few minutes from Reading and well inside our normal working area.

My house still has the original pipework. Is that a problem?

Not necessarily, but it needs checking. Narrow microbore runs and years of sludge both restrict flow, and a modern boiler is far less tolerant of that than an old one. We check it at the survey and tell you if anything needs doing alongside the boiler.

Do I need a power flush with a new boiler?

You need the system cleaned. That is not always the same as a power flush, and on some older systems a gentler clean is the safer option. We assess it rather than adding it to every quote as standard.

Can you fit the new boiler somewhere else in the house?

Usually yes. Moving it means the flue, condensate drain and gas supply all have to move with it, which adds to the job, but on this style of house there is often a better position than the original one.
